In order for the AGC region to be economically competitive, the development of broadband communications capability has been identified as a priority. Fiber connectivity and coverage is necessary for the region to attract employers and skilled workers and allow young people to stay in the communities in which they were raised. Telecommunications access will make it possible to attract telecommunication intensive businesses such as back office support and high tech industries. It is also a significant public safety and quality of life issue in an increasingly connected world.
